Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau - Why We Give

Published on 26 May 2025

“The Waikato Women’s Fund has done incredible mahi since its beginning — but we’re only just getting started.”

As a founding member and former Chair of Te Ira Wāhine o Waikato – the Waikato Women’s Fund, Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau brought deep governance experience, bold leadership, and a fierce belief in the potential of wāhine to her role.

Of Tongan and Ngāti Awa descent, Rachel’s career spans across the public, private, and community sectors — always with a heart for equity, wellbeing, and cross-cultural connection.

“I give because I believe in growing a movement — one that empowers women and girls in the Waikato to rise, lead, and thrive.”

Under Rachel’s leadership, the Fund grew its reach, deepened its commitment to holistic wellbeing, and laid strong foundations for future generations of wāhine toa to build upon.

Though no longer Chair, Rachel continues to champion the kaupapa — as a donor, advocate, and mentor.

“Every gift matters. Every voice matters. And when we give together, we build something far more powerful than we could ever do alone.”
